Safety Devices' Engineers evacuated from BP Algerian gas plant terrorist attack Back to results

The fatal terrorist attack and taking of hostages at Sonatrach/BP/Statoil's In Amenas gas plant in Algeria on Wednesday 16 January 2013 shocked the world.  Safety Devices became especially concerned when it could not contact two of its British installation engineers stationed at the plant.

Safety Devices remained in constant contact with the Foreign Office, BP and family members throughout the episode.  Its close-knit team of staff was extremely concerned as they waited for news.

On the evening of Thursday 17 January both engineers made contact and awaited evacuation from In Amenas airport.

Safety Devices has been a principal supplier of ROPS to BP in Algeria for many years and our British installation engineers have worked safely on BP's Algerian plants over ten projects. Gavin Davidson, Managing Director at Safety Devices commented  "our visits have always been closely co-ordinated with BP management and under travel advice from the UK Foreign Office.  My staff and I are just so happy that Martin and Tony are home safe and our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the innocent people that have lost their lives in this grave attack."
