Safety Devices have been making the best in heavy duty roof racks for 30 years, beginning with all the Camel Trophy roof racks in the 1980s. Safety Devices roof racks are made from high quality steel, both tubular and box section.  Roof racks are grit blasted, primed with a zinc enriched powder undercoat, and finished with a durable black powder coat.  Currently we only offer roof racks to fit Land Rover models but we expect to extend the range to other makes of 4x4 soon.  Please note we only hold a small stock of these items - lead times can vary at times of excessive demand.

Explorer Series

A heavy duty steel roof rack. All Explorer roof racks come in two versions: either with a short luggage rail (for side loaded tents) or a long luggage rail (for front or back loaded tents).  Roof racks can be affixed with a system of detachable roof cross rails to the rainwater gutters or with aluminium clamps to fit directly on to the majority of Safety Devices' external roll cages.

The standard pack includes a steel roof rack, fixing bolts and either detachable roof cross rails or aluminium roll cage feet.  Tents can normally be affixed to the roof rack without a floor, although a marine ply non-slip floor is also available.  Additional roof cross rails are available to purchase for use without a roof rack for use as, for example, a roof bar, basic tent support, attaching a roof storage box or to spread additional load on the Safety Devices' roof racks.

Defender 90 Hard Top and Station Wagon Explorer Roof Racks

Defender 90 Explorer roof racks have 3 roof cross rails as standard and can accommodate 2 additional roof cross rails.  These roof racks can also be fitted to the Defender 110 Hard Top and Station Wagon. If a roof rack is attached to a vehicle with a sunroof, the sunroof cannot be operated. All roof racks are supplied with fitting kits.

G4 Expedition

A heavy duty, all steel roof rack. This is an 'all in one' rack without detachable parts and a luggage rail which completely surrounds the roof rack. The roof rack neatly follows the profile of the roof to provide two floor levels and fixes to the rainwater gutter (this roof rack cannot be fitted to a vehicle where an external roll cage has been fitted). The standard kit includes all rainwater gutter fixings.

Note: standard delivery methods pose a significant risk of damage to the G4 Expedition roof rack, therefore the roof rack must be collected - in the UK, the roof rack can be collected either from Safety Devices in Newmarket or from Nene Overland in Peterborough. In mainland Europe, the roof rack can be collected from Beuckelaere Import in Belgium. Safety Devices, Nene Overland and Beuckelaere Import can fit the roof rack directly to the vehicle on site.
