 FAQ

Q. I want a bespoke roll cage – can you help?

Yes, contact Safety Devices direct and we will be able to give you a quote.

Q. Can I install my own roll cage?

Fitting a motorsport roll cage is a complicated process involving welding, cutting and drilling – a weld-in is especially difficult so unless you are a fully qualified mechanic we do not recommend it.  Moreover the FIA now insist that roll cages are properly fitted by experts and approved by the manufacturer.

Q. I have a roll cage in my car, how can I be sure it is a Safety Devices roll cage?

Look for the unique serial number on the footplate and send a photo of it to us for verification together with photos of the roll cage.  If the roll cage has been painted over the years, you may need to scrub the paint off the footplates with a wire brush to reveal the serial number.  You may also need to use a torch to see the serial number.  Beware – a long black Safety Devices sticker on your cage does not mean it’s a Safety Devices cage.

Q. Can I have my roll cage in a colour other than black?

Yes, but this will almost certainly be a factory order which will usually take 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer at times of high demand.  Other colours available are: grey (RAL 7040), silver (RAL 9006s), white (RAL 9010), red (RAL 3020) and blue (RAL 5002). The roll cage can also be provided unpainted by special request but there is no reduction in price for an unpainted cage.  The standard black we use is RAL 9005 (MN201D Black Matt Smooth).  There is a surcharge for colours other than black.

Q. I want Safety Devices to fit my roll cage. Is that possible?

Yes, contact Safety Devices direct and we will be able to give  you a quote.

Q. My Safety Devices roll cage has been damaged and I want to get replacement parts. Is that possible?

We will supply parts but you must be completely sure that the damage has not affected the integrity of the cage.  If your cage has suffered anything other than superficial damage we recommend that the whole cage is replaced.

Q. I am not sure if I need a bolt-in or a weld-in roll cage.

In the first instance speak to one of our dealers and he will be able to guide you. Essentially, a bolt-in is easier to install and will (in the UK) be suitable for normal road use.  A weld-in is very complicated to fit, requiring the vehicle to be stripped to the shell and will only be useable for motorsport, however it stiffens the chassis of the vehicle allowing for improved performance on the race track.

Q. Is a roll cage expensive to fit?

Generally a bolt-in will be more expensive to buy but easier (and therefore cheaper) to install.  A weld-in which is in effect a collection of cut tubes to be joined by the welder is cheaper to buy but much more complicated and therefore expensive to install.

Q. Do you have any pictures/drawings/illustrations of the cage I want?

You will normally find drawings specification and pictures on this website through the roll cage selector.

Q. Can I buy my roll cage direct from Safety Devices?

No, we no longer sell Motorsport cages directly to the public.  Instead you can buy from one of our dealers who you can find on this website through the roll cage selector.  Dealers often hold stock of our cages. Usually they can also fit your cage for you, however will sell the cage for someone else to install if that’s what you want.  If you are having difficulties finding a dealer call us and let us know.

Q. If I can’t find my cage in the “roll cage selector” does that mean you don’t do it?

Some less popular cages are not shown but we can still do them.  Alternatively we may be willing to make a design for a new cage from your vehicle – contact us to find out.

Q. Is there a recommended retail price for your roll cages?

Yes.

Q. Do all the dealers charge the same price?

Not necessarily – each will determine an economic price for them, but none will charge more than our recommended retail price and none will add a 'mark-up' to that price.  We offer our dealers discounts which are on a standard, tiered discount structure, dependent on quantities ordered.  The margin the dealer makes is the difference between the recommended retail price and the level of discount we apply.  Most of our larger dealers offer trade discounts too.

Q. Don't your dealers add a huge mark-up to the price of your roll cages?

No.  Our Dealers do not add a mark-up to our roll cages - they offer our set, recommended retail price.  We offer our dealers discounts which on a standard, tiered discount structure, dependent on quantities ordered.  The margin the dealer makes is the difference between the recommended retail price and the level of discount we apply.  Most of our larger dealers offer trade discounts too.

Q. Your dealer is not in my area – can I buy more locally?

The price of delivering a cage is generally the same wherever you are in mainland UK.  Obviously there is a saving if you can pick it up yourself but beyond that the location of the dealer has no bearing on the price or the time it will take to get you your cage.

Q. Will my garage be able to buy a cage cheaper than I can?

No, not normally.

Q. How long will it take me to get my cage once I have ordered it?

If they have it in stock, just a few days.  However if not in stock, Safety Devices will have to manufacture to order therefore normally 4-6 weeks, however lead times may be extended at times of high demand.

Q. I am having difficulties contacting your dealer – can you help?

You should be able to contact the dealer – please call us if you can’t get hold of them.

Q. You do not have a dealer in my country – who do I contact?

A number of dealers will export to your location.  If in doubt start with Beuckelaere Import  in Belgium – Frank is a fluent English/French/Flemish/German speaker and he will be glad to help. Contact: + 32 (0) 51 589 918 info@safetydevices.be

Q. Can I move my roll cage from one car to another?

Yes, providing it is a bolt-in roll cage and both cars are the same model and spec.  However, you will need new 'floor plates' to replace those welded to the original shell.  We also strongly recommend replacing the nuts, bolts and washers. To simplify this task, we sell complete fitting kits via our Safety Devices eBay shop.  A weld-in roll cage can not be moved from one car to another.
